Holydays - as Public Holidays in Denmark |
|
Christian
Holydays since 1536
The Danes traditionally celebrate five very important holy occasions
and holidays during a year - which has been a great custom for
numerous generations - and is part of the Danes public holiday
tradition based upon the yearly Christian Calendar that includes
Christmas (Jul) - Easter (Påske)
- Great Prayer Day (Store Bededag) - Ascension
Day (Kristi himmelfartsdag) - and Whitsun-Pentecost
(Pinse) - as the Danish Vikings fortunately chose Christianity
during the 900s, as their faith -
and the Danes have been Protestants - and belonging to the Evangelical
Lutheran faith since The Protestant Reformation in
1536.

The first time "Daylight Saving Time" (DST)
was introduced in Denmark was in 1916 - during World War
I (1914-1919). The second time was during World War II
in 1939 (Denmark 1940-1945) - and in the years that immediately
followed up to 1948. The third and last time was in the
summer of 1980 - when "Daylight
Saving Time" (DST) was introduced - as we know it
today. Summer Time in Denmark stretches from the last
weekend of March - to the last weekend
of October. Summer time in Denmark celebrated
